Settings For Our Film

scene 1

this will take place in Aiden's house and driveway - him getting his stuff together and driving to school

scene 2

this will be inside the school - hallways and corridors

scene 3

most of this scene will take place on the field - where they are playing football

also the path that connects the car park and sixth form building for Jessica and Kate to walk up

Planning Of Characters - Personalities & Costumes

I used the role on the wall strategy to plan the characters

these will be the 4 main characters personality traits - mainly focused on Aiden and Kate because they are the main characters

these will be the costumes

.

from my research I know that main characters usually have brighter clothing and are likeable and funny

Our Script

this is the first draft - I wrote the script- its quite basic because we expanded more on the storyboards

Music And Sound We Will Use

We have decided to include the song 'Bad Reputation' by Joan Jett. This song is very upbeat. We choose this song because it is rebellious, this represents teenagers, therefore the audience may be able to relate. It also gives the audience an insight on the characters behaviour/personality. it is also foreshadowing for Aiden's "bad reputation" later on in the film - when he gets with Kate. This song is going to play at the beginning, when Aiden presses play on his phone- and the song plays for the rest of scene 1.  (This song was also used in 10 things i hate about you - another teen angst film)

Image result for a music note
there will be a mixture of non diegetic sounds when he is shutting the boot and door of his car, when he opens his car with his keys and when he is getting all his things together - like his keys.

We will be adding non-diegetic sound of a car engine turning on and the car wheeling screeching, when driving away, this will emphasise that the boy can drive and is traveling at speed to show he is late, it will adds suspense, as the audience wants to know where the protagonist is headed.

A non-diegetic bell will be added when the title appears. This helps with the ellipsis as the bell shows him driving away and then the next shot is of the school, the bell helps show the passing of time. The bell also lets the audience suggest that the setting of the film will be in a school/sixth form, this setting is very stereotypical for teen angst films.

The second song we decided to use in the opening sequence is 'Fireball' by Pitbull, this will be plays at the beginning of scene 2. the song is also upbeat and fun, the song is quite comedic and helps to add the humour to the scene. i found this song when i was watching Ellen and thought the chorus would be an excellent choice for the the football scene in our film.

We will be including two voiceovers. This will be by the main character 'Aiden and his love interest (later in the film) 'Kate'. This will helps the audience understand their personalities. We decided to also give 'Kate' a voiceover because this shows her opinion other than just the main character.

Just before there the football hits Kates head, the upbeat song fireball will be playing and it cuts out very quickly so it will amplify the loud thump of the football hitting Kates head.

Our USP

our unique selling points for Opposites:
  • we have a male protagonist -which most teen films don't

  • its relatable - we have the stereotypical groups of people you would have at a NORMAL school (like footballers and large groups of friends)

  • it set in the uk - most teen angst films are set in America at big overcrowded high schools where as ours is set in the UK

  • its light hearted and comedic - its enjoyable to watch and as our target audience is teens they can, to some extent predict what's going to happen.

  • our film tells a different perspective of the teen genre - the really shy girl and the popular boy- its unlikely paring but an underlying message in our film is to just be yourself. We've already broken the usual theme of having a girl as the protagonist, and in teen films you always have STEROTYPICAL groups of people - in real life you dont always have stereotypical groups of people - there just normal - and i wanted to carry that into our production.

Our Feedback From Our Pitch

I did this - these were the brief points that our class made

Our Title

we went with: Opposites - we went with Opposites because
  1. we have a male as the protagonist - which is an opposite to many teen angst films
  2. its also a well known saying and fact that "opposites attract each other" this is foreshadowing Aiden and Kate's relationship
  3. the title Opposites is also reflective on Aiden and Kate because they are complete "opposites" in character and personality - also their status at school
  4. its also quite vague which makes it intriguing

Production Company & Logo

we used the word tomorrow because kids are always looking to the future - our target audience
and productions is a word that was used on a lot of film companies logos (I noticed this in my research) the image used is in a cinema - where the film will be first shown- also the chairs are red and that is stereotypical for a cinema

the font is in Castellar which looks bold and professional

also the tiered seating gets lighter the higher it goes up - the more you achieve the brighter the future looks. (something teens are told a lot.)

My Ideas For Our Opening

we are struggling to come up with a title

 some of our ideas
  • the not so perfect life of Aiden
  • that kid called Aiden
  • Fireball
  • the twist
  • that stereotypical teen film
  • I nearly killed a girl with my ball - quite comical and  could be seen as sexual
  • score - refrencing the football
  • strike
  • crushin' - with an apostrophe  to show teen slang
  • Aiden Next Door - an achronym
Adien

Next
Door
  • playing by the rules
  • opposites

songs I have suggested using
  • bad reputation by Joan Jett
  • Fireball by Pittbull
  • what the hell by Avril Lavigene

we watched an episode of the Inbetweeners, where someone gets hit in the head with a Frisbee, it's really funny  and we wanted to use something like this in our opening.

Our Pitch

our company was originally called "Tomorrow studios" but I thought it would sound better as  "Tomorrow Productions" because it sounds more professional

I thought the background should be a cinema screen because young people go to the cinema a lot and its also where our film will be seen. Also because its aimed at a teen audience the bright colours are important.

we are still unsure if Aiden will ride a bike or drive a car

when doing my research 17 again was the only film I found with a male protagonist so we wanted to have a male protagonist in our film opening to make it different

these are our main characters but we will have background characters too
stereotypical settings

I thought we could add the credits at the beginning as Aiden is doing his daily routine, like he could be wiping the frost off his windscreen and a name of an actor/crew appears.
they will appear as he goes to school- its just a normal day

that is our power point we used for our pitch!

this was my idea for what our logo could look like but we decided as a group that it should be composed with real life images. (obviously I would have used Photoshop but this was a first idea)

Some Teen Angst Film Titles Analyslised

angus thongs and perfect snogging - quite funny and quirky, attracts young girls as its intriguing

mean girls - the word mean connotes hate and shows the audience that the main characters will be "mean" Mean also can be seen as sassy

the duff - makes me think of the saying "the duff up" which is said when a girl is pregnant  - the film is aimed at girls

grease - grease is a word that is associated with teenagers also the title also connects to the cars which is an important theme in the film

wild child - teenagers are stereotypically "wild" and out of control or reckless. child tells the audience that the characters will be young

10 things I hate about you - this makes me think of a list or diary entry, younger people are more like to have a diary than older people

twilight - twilight is a sunset, stereotypically teenagers stay out late - their rebellious

dirty dancing - sounds rebellious which is what teenagers are - stereotypically

hairspray - teens are concerned about their looks and they want to look good. it also links to the films storyline

Prelimininary Task

In my group I was acting as Lord Sugar in an episode of the Apprentice.

I learnt about the 180 degree rule - which is when two characters in a scene stay in the same place- either left/right and don't swap over . the camera will always keep them on the same side.
we used this all the way through our piece

shot reverse shot - when two characters are talking we see both their faces and it cuts between them - its used in editing

match on action - also used in editing - we used this when Alice walks through the door, as she presses down on the handle it cuts
